Online Certificate in Counseling and Development

The Certificate in Counseling and Development is a 16-credit hour program that provides additional educational coursework requirements for counselors to meet the 60-hour requirement for Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas. The program can be completed in a minimum of five terms (approximately 30 weeks) and consists of a Practicum for applying knowledge and skills in the community setting including community agencies, hospitals, and other mental health related facilities.

Lamar University anticipates graduates of this program will assume professional counseling positions and be equipped to model the highest ideals and ethics of their profession as they provide services to the public.

The six courses in the Certificate in Counseling and Development are provided on a 5-week rotation inclusive of the following:

CNDV 5302 Foundations of Clinical Mental Health

CNDV 5310 Counseling Skills or CNDV 5324 Substance Abuse Counseling

CNDV 5381 Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling

CNDV 5350 Abnormal Human Behavior

CNDV 5189 Seminar/CNDV 5393 Practicum

  • Lamar Graduate Education Programs does not accept transient credit.
  • The Certificate Program does not provide courses outside of the set rotation courses listed above.
  • Candidates applying for the Certificate Program must have a Master’s Degree in Counseling and complete the steps for admission.
