Texas Governor's School

The Texas Governors School was established by the Texas Legislature to provide a rich and challenging academic experience for advanced high school students. Lamar University will sponsor a 2017 Texas Governor's School in Beaumont, Texas.

FOCUS

The Texas Governor's School at Lamar University will focus on leadership in the Humanities, Language Arts, Mathematics, Fine Arts, and Science. Opportunities will be provided for students to address problems and issues in advanced content with problem-based strategies. Students will be introduced to a range of topics in classes which are not for credit; however, participating students will learn how to become more motivated and persistent in activities with students of similar interests and ability.

WHEN

The three week residential program will be from June 11 (Registration) to June 30, 2017. Classes will begin on June 12. 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE

High-achieving ( intellectually or academically gifted) public, private, or home-schooled students who are legal residents or citizens of Texas, are in the 10th,11th or 12th grade at the time of application are eligible. TGS students need to demonstrate intellectual curiosity and a commitment to a challenging academic program.

COST

Participating students will be provided a full scholarship covering room, board, and any and all required materials and books. There is a student fee of $350 and travel to and from Beaumont.
